On the auspicious occasion of Navaratri, Carnatica is pleased to announce the enhancement of our Gurukulam & Cyber Vidyalaya with the participation of senior experts Prof. S. R. Janakiraman, Trichy Sri. J. Venkataraman and Smt. Suguna Purushottaman. These respected musicians, along with Carnatica's own Sowmya, Shashikiran & Ganesh, enable us to offer a slew of special course offerings available to any interested music student, both in India and overseas.

Special Content by Expert Faculty

Prof. S. R. Janakiraman will offer lessons in rare varnams, kritis in rare ragas, music theory (e.g. raga lakshana) and any other specific requirements of advanced students.

Trichy Sri. J. Venkataraman, the renowned Pallavi expert will offer special modules in pallavi singing, laya exercises for beginners & advanced students and rare kritis of the masters as rendered in the Alathur bANi.

Vidushi Smt. Suguna Purushottaman will share her laya expertise and proficiency in rare tALams, as well as her vast repertoire of Tamil kritis.

Grooming of young Talent

Chitravina Sri. N. Narasimhan, son & disciple of the legendary Gottuvadyam Narayana Iyengar and guru of noted musicians Chitravina N. Ravikiran, K. N. Shashikiran & Kiranavali Vidyasankar is an acknowledged specialist in grooming young children into prodigious performing artistes. He will be sharing his phenomenal repertoire, pAThAntaram, unique talent-grooming skills and his expertise in pallavis & laya-gnanam.

Special Courses for Navaratri

This festival season, we present an ideal opportunity for students to learn the Navaratri-based masterpieces of the great composers, in authentic pAThAntarams. These include the Kamalamba Navavaranams, Abhayamba Vibhakti & Neelotpalamba Kritis of Muttuswami Dikshitar, Shyama Shastri's Navaratnamalika, Oottukkadu Venkata Kavi's Navavaranams and Maharaja Swati Tirunal's nine kritis that are rendered every year at the Navaratri Mandapam in Thiruvananthapuram. Students can sign up to learn individual kritis by request or a complete set.

Features

  • All sessions will be one-to-one between the student and the expert faculty member. These may be face-to-face at a physical location in Chennai OR tele-teaching (via phone or Internet) from anywhere in the world.

  • For students/rasikas who are interested in the course sessions but are unable to attend, audio recordings will be made available at a nominal cost.

  • For overseas and non-Chennai Indian students who are keen to learn but feel unsure about the quality & feel of tele-teaching sessions, a free 30-minute trial will be made available with one of our faculty.
