 ABOUT US

Violin Maestro Padmabhushan T. N. Krishnan attained 75 years last week and at the same time the veteran Guruvayur Dorai completed 60 years of service to music, playing mridangam for all the noted musicians of both North and South India. To mark these career milestones, a jugalbandhi was arranged, featuring T. N. Krishnan, N. Rajam, Guruvayur Dorai and Aditya Kalyanpur (tabla) at Austin under the auspices of India Fine Arts, Inc at Helms Fine Arts Center on October 11, 2003.

The function was presided by Prof. Stephen Slawek, Director of Ethnomusicology of University of Texas, Austin. The concert itself was a three hour treat with all the four artists playing together from the beginning, unlike the usual format of each major artist playing separately for an hour or so and then combining for their jugalbandhi. At the end of the concert maestro T. N. Krishnan was felicitated with the title of "SANGEETHA ACHARYA" and Guruvayur Dorai with "LAYA CHAKRAVARTHI" and N.Rajam wth "SANGEETHA CHOODAMANI".
