Carnatica's Bangalore Chapter Inaugurated |
|
Carnatica’s Bangalore Chapter was inaugurated with a ‘BANG’. It was witnessed by music lovers who had turned up in good numbers, the fourth estate and a string of dignitaries that included Sri. Kedar (Secretary for Information, Tourism and Youth Services), Sri. Arun Madhavan (Chairman, Art of Living), Sri. Arun Kumar (President, SVN Music Academy Bangalore), Sri. Kamalanath (President, Gayana Samaj, Bangalore), Sri. R. K. Srikantan, Sri. N. Ravikiran, Prof. T. N. Krishnan, and Smt. Kamala Krishnan. Smt. Chitra Sherman (Coordinator Carnatica, Bangalore) was the hostess for the evening.
Smt. Kamala Krishnan formally inaugurated Carnatica’s Bangalore Chapter. As she lit the lamp, Sapna (student of Carnatica, Bangalore) mellifluously invoked the blessings of Lord Ganesha. The chief guests were then felicitated with bouquets of red roses and shawls by Sapna and K. N. Shashikiran (Director, Carnatica). In a rare gesture, Prof. T. N. Krishnan honoured Sri. R. K. Srikantan. It was a treat to watch the two Sangita Kalanidhis embrace each other.
This was followed by the most eagerly awaited concerts by Sri. R. K. Srikantan and Prof. T. N. Krishnan. Sri. R. K. Srikantan’s concert also uniquely featured Chitravina maestro Sri. N.Ravikiran. If anybody had doubts about the 85-year-old veteran’s ability to deliver, those were put to rest by the ensuing musical feast. Occasionally assisted by his son Rudrapatnam Sri .S. Ramakant, Sri. Srikantan had the atmosphere charged with the energy that he emanated. The concert was further enhanced by Sri. N. Ravikiran’s brilliant Chitravina performance. As Shashikiran rightly put it, no artiste played a supporting role that evening. Whether it was Sri. N. Ravikiran or Guruvayur Sri. Dorai (Mridangam) or Sri. H. P. Ramachar on Kanjira, each artiste’s individuality stood out. Carntica rightly honoured Sri. R. K. Srikantan by inviting him to be the Chairperson of the Bangalore Branch, which the latter gracefully accepted.
If Sri. Srikantan energized the audience, Prof. T. N. Krishnan had them mesmerized. His recital warmed the cockles of the heart. He had his audience intoxicated by the soulful melodies that he churned out so effortlessly. The floor was then opened for the percussionists who wasted no time to prove their mettle. Prof. Krishnan wrapped up the evening by blessing Carnatica in a brief address. -- Inputs from the Carnatica Bangalore Team. |
