Carnatica’s Cultural Renaissance

Carnatica, spearheaded by musicians S Sowmya and K N Shashikiran, strives to promote, propagate and preserve our rich culture and tradition with the motto of ‘Music for all, and music for universal peace and harmony’.

Carnatica has launched a number of innovative programmes for the propagation of music such as the mega music rally held on August 15, 2002 at the Marina beach, Chennai, where students from over 60 educational institutions and the general public took part and sang patriotic songs along with celebrities.

Carnatica has also been actively involved in promoting music and dance among school children through a novel concept called ‘Parichaya’ in Chennai and Coimbatore. As part of this venture, music has been introduced in the regular curriculum in these schools.

This year Carnatica has come out with another successful concept called ‘Kreativ 2003’, a talent hunt for music and dance at different age and professional levels. This has elicited an overwhelming response from participants across various cities. Carnatica in fact invites further applications for this contest.

Another novel concept that Carnatica is now bringing forth is the ‘Cultural Renaissance’, a movement to bring back the success story of the musical bhakti movement of a bygone era. The Bhakti movement was basically a public expression of devotion to God through congregational singing led by saints. It was a very popular concept in both South and North India.

Carnatica's cultural renaissance will be propelled by the concept of Call N’ Sing which means any interested amateur or professional musician looking for opportunities can now open up without any inhibition! One can realise one's dream with just a phone call! Opportunities for one and all will be provided after a basic screen test. There will also be a cultural tour of temples. This movement will start in Chennai. To begin with, 15 temples will be covered on a monthly basis. This will also ensure a definite floating audience for the talented. Even professionals can join this noble venture to propagate good music and culture.

Carnatica is also planning to open Culture centres or clubs in various residential localities. These centres will be supported by small groups or local organizations or even apartment associations, and will host chamber concerts by aspiring talents. This will not only ensure the participation of those who cannot attend Sabhas concerts because of distance and other factors but will also ensure uniform cultural growth in all the areas. The club will also work with Carnatica in promoting the concept of Gurukulam.

Corporate organisations also have something to look forward to! Carnatica will conduct music appreciation programmes through mini-concerts and lec-dems by professionals. This special corporate package also includes opportunities for talented employees. The best of these talent will be featured in Carnatica’s talent promotion schemes, including Karaoke albums.

Carnatica also plans to take music to orphanages, old age homes, institutions for special children, cancer patients, the destitute and other NGOs.

Carnatica’s own office premises will feature Nama Sankeertanam and classical music programmes on a monthly basis where everyone can participate by simply registrating for it.
