| One of the top-notch mridangists for several decades now, he underwent training in mridangam under the renowned artistes, Arupati Natesa Iyer, Tanjavur Vaidyanatha Iyer, Kumbhakonam Rangu Iyengar and Palghat Mani Iyer. Pleasing sound, purity of intonation, clarity in fingering without sacrificing on the laya aspects are the hallmarks of Sivaraman's playing. Having accompanied musicians of over three generations, he has also presented several solo performances, and is regularly featured in jugalbandis. Besides being a very accomplished mridangist, Umayalpuram Sivaraman is also a graduate in Arts and Law. |
