Malaikottai Govindasami Pillai

    
Born at Achyutamangalam on the banks of river Mudicondan in Tanjavur District, Govindasami Pillai had his training in vocal and violin from his twelfth year under Umayalpuram Panchapakesa Iyer and later under Ettayapuram Kodandapani Bhagavatar at Madurai. Known for his vibrant violin play, he could also play the flute and mridangam and gave quite a few flute recitals too. Besides, he was a scholar in Tamil. Pillai was an eminent soloist as well as accompanist and was at the very top throughout his career. A highly respected musician himself, his reverence for the art was deep. He brought in the innovation of full-bowing technique. Sheer brilliance and originality marked the artistic life of Pillai.
