Hi Rasikas

I recently learnt a swathi tirunal krithi in misra pahaadi that goes like this..."aaj aaye shyam mohan.." what i want to know is whether this is a thypical hindustani ragam and whether there is an equivalent in carnatic? and also whether (why) there is no arohanam avarohanam for hindustani ragas?

The song was originally set in rAgA yamankalyAn. Someone probably retuned it in mishra pahaDi.
pahaDi itself is a folk based rAgA. B.Subba Rao has given the scale in Raganidhi:

s r g - p d - p d s --- n d p g m g r -s *n *d *p *d s

svarAs used are all shudda svarAs of hindustani music. Sometimes shuddha m is avoided. Sometimes tIvra m is touched for ranjakatva when it sounds like bhoop kalyAN. n is not important Pakad or "rAga vachak" svara groups are: g - g r -g p g r -s.. *n *d s
vAdi is s and samvAdi is p
