HUGE TURNOUT AT CARNATICA'S VOICE & INSTRUMENTAL CONTESTS

What happened on the day of the Mister & Miss Voice contest conducted by Carnatica went beyond one's wildest expectations. Carnatica’s organizational capabilities were there for all to see and appreciate. Accommodating more than a thousand participants in the vocal category alone, in a span of 48 hours, the contest made sure no one went back disappointed without getting a chance to display his/her talents. It was held on a Saturday and Sunday for everyone to be able to take part in it. Saturday was a hectic affair, though Sunday showed what a “thronging crowd “ actually means.

The vocal audition was primarily aimed at testing the inherent quality of the voice and its development potential. Contestants from various age groups were given enough time to establish their vocal potential in front of the judges, who with their technical expertise, experience and aesthetic intuition, not only judged them but even gave suggestions as to what they could do for the betterment of their vocal ability. Where direct contact was not possible, such suggestions were written at the back of the token slips given to the participants. Mr. Shashikiran himself talked to the deserving and encouraged them.

Participants were also informed about the voice culture programmes to be soon started at Carnatica. This drew a lot of response. It bodes well for the future of Carnatica's ambitious projects.

Appalling is the only word that can describe the ratio of instrumentalists to vocalists. There were around 70 instrumentalists as compared to the four digit number of vocalists! That should describe the crooners that Indipop produces all the time!
