SWARNAMALYA GIVES A FINE PERFORMANCE

Swarnamalya Ganesh recently performed a Bharatanatyam recital at Mylapore Fine Arts Club, Chennai. Groomed in the Vazhuvoor style of dancing, this danseuse is marching her way into the hearts of dance lovers. Her recent performance was lively. It got off to a fine start with the traditional Pushpanjali followed by an invocatory piece, 'Sabha Kalpataru'. The Anandhabhairavi Varnam ‘Sakhiye’, a composition of Sivanandam, one among the acclaimed Tanjore Quartette, remained the central piece. Her jatis were crisp and her presentation was well up to the mark. The episode of Lord Krishna lifting the Govardhana mountain with his little finger was brought out neatly in the form of an elaborate sanchari

The singer Hamsa, though a new entrant into the dance field, could cope up consistently with the dancer’s expressions and the modulations in her voice won her special appreciation. The Padam ‘Kanda Naal Mudalai’ in raga Madhuvanti, was handled with grace and agility. This padam mirrored her experience. Jagadish Janardhanan, the mridangist should get double credit for building up an excellent tempo in the rendition. The varieties of Pharans played were rare ones. ‘Krishna Nee begane’, an evergreen hit in the classical dance and music field was chosen by Swarnamalya. She brought Krishna and his loving mother Yasodha live on stage. The Javali in Khamas was filled with Sringara bhava. This rendition bespoke her maturity. A crisp Tillana in Brindavani marked the grand finale of her dance recital. Delhi Krishnamurthy wielded the Nattuvangam with dignity. M S Kannan’s violin was an added highlight of the programme.
