Composed and Refined

Kavitha Ramu’s performance at the Narada Gana Sabha was composed and refined, making the audience experience sheer joy. Her firm grip on rhythm and her equally bright abhinaya gave ample evidence of her experience. An artiste groomed in the Vazhuvoor style of Bharatanatyam under the expert guidance of Kalaimamani K J Sarasa, she commenced with the traditional Pushpanjali. The Varnam compiled out of the Pasurams by T S Parthasarathy and tuned by the violin vidwan K T Siva Ganesh was the main- stay of the programme. Her sancharis and sanchari bhava was precise while she rendered this number. Though the tempo of the charanam in the varnam was rapid, her neat presentation of the Tattimettu in perfect aramandi posture stringed with energetic arudis spoke of her years of training and dedicated practice.

Young dancer Narendra wielded the nattuvangam and rendered the jatis with distinct mastery. The Maund Tillana took the audience to a state of unbounded thrill. Her cover up of the entire stage in this piece was a good sight. Shobana (vocal), Dhananjayan (mridangam), Shankar (violin) and Srividya (Vina) formed a well-balanced orchestral ensemble. Kudos to Narada Gana Sabha’s Murali for perfect lighting and mike balancing.
