Carnatica Brothers (K. N. Shashikiran & Chitravina P. Ganesh)
performed a marathon
24-hr vocal concert from 8.45 am on September 9th to 8.45 am on September 10th.
marathon was dedicated to all those who lost their lives in various natural
calamities and terrorist attacks and to mark World Peace Day. They started the musical marathon with the blessings of the percussion maestro Sangita
Kalanidhi Sri. Umayalpuram Sivaraman, at
Carnatica, No. 9 Shirdi Towers, Arulambal Street, T. Nagar, Chennai- 17.
Sri. Sivaraman also accompanied the brothers on mridangam for the first three
hours, along with M. A. Sundareswaran on violin and T. V. Vasan on Ghatam.
Following this there was a succession of several leading artistes
supporting the marathon effort. (See list below). A total of 114 compositions
were rendered by the duo, with the selections comprising the entire spectrum
of Carnatic composers.
brothers did not take a single rest break right through - a feat of amazing
stamina and mental strength to overcome fatigue. Carnatica's support staff and
a steady stream of visitors encouraged the singers right through the effort.
Ganesh already holds the record for the longest recital on slide instruments
for his marathon 32 hours feat in 2004, at the same venue.
Coinciding with the marathon recital the Namaste Yoga Center in Asheville,
North Carolina did a 24-hr ‘Om Marathon’ dedicated to World Peace.
Apart from this, Carnatica shall also join in the celebrations of the
World Peace Day on 21st September along with organizations in
several other countries with a unique all faith prayer and Shanthi peace march.
