The disciples and rasikas of late Sangita Kalanidhi T.
Brinda will be getting together to pay a musical tribute to her on the
occasion of her 93rd birthday. Smt. T. Brinda hailed from the
musical lineage of the legendary Vina Dhanammal, and was one of the finest
Carnatic musicians of her times. She straddled the masculine style of her
guru Kanchipuram Nayana Pillai and the feminine grace of her grandmother
Vina Dhanammal’s style with ease, and created a beautiful blend of the two
styles, which we call the Brinda bani today.
Under the initiative of her disciples Indira Menon and Kiranavali Vidyasankar,
a musical homage will be paid to Brindamma. Musicians who are participating in
this programme include Brinda’s disciples Chitravina N. Ravikiran, Smt. A. R.
Sundaram, Smt. Rama Ravi, K. N. Shashikiran, Kiranavali Vidyasankar,
Chitravina Ganesh, Anooradha Sriram, Geetha Raja, Nagalakshmi Lakshmanan and
S. Girish. There will also be presentations on her style with the aid of
audio/video clips by Chitravina N. Ravikiran and K. S. S. Rajan.
The
event is open to the public, and will take place at Raga Sudha Hall, Luz,
between 5 pm and 9 pm on Nov. 6, 2005.
