MADRAS MUSIC MELA 2002
CASSETTE OF TANJAVUR SANKARA IYER COMPOSITIONS
A cassette featuring only the Tamil compositions of living composer Tanjavur Sankara Iyer will be released on December 14, 2002 at Hamsadhwani at 6 pm. Dr. S Sundar, a disciple of the late D K Jayaraman, is the artiste featured in the cassette, which will be released by R Ramachandran, Secretary of Hamsadhwani. N Mahalingam, Chairman, Sakti Group of Companies will receive the first copy. On this occasion, Sri. Sankara Iyer will also be honoured. The honours will be done by vocalist T K Govinda Rao. The function will be followed by a concert of Dr. S Sundar accompanied by Kandadevi Vijayaraghavan (Violin) and Trichur Narendran (Mridangam).
Awards for youngsters:
The Valayapatti Nadalaya Trust will recognise the talents of upcoming young artistes Ramesh (Flute) and Rohan Krishnamurthy (Mridangam). The award will be given away by the seer of Kanchi, His Holiness Sri Jayendra Saraswati on December 25, 2002, the inaugural day of the Trust's season festival.
