DEEPA RAVIKUMAR - A NEW TALENT
    
Seventeen year old Deepa Ravikumar from the US gave a good recital at the Tyaga Brahma Gana Sabha. She has obviously been given a lot of encouragement by her parents in developing her musical talents. A disciple of T V Ramprasad, she has also had the benefit of learning select compositions under the maestro R K Srikantan. Her concert revealed that she has a good voice, malleable to suit the requirements of Carnatic music. She also displayed considerable strength in laya. The commendable aspect of her concert was that she sang with total self -assurance in the presence of stalwarts like T K Govinda Rao who were present in the audience. She took up Pantuvarali (Apparamabhakti) and Mohanam (Mohanarama) for elaboration. With good guidance and sustained interest, she can make a mark in the Carnatic firmament.
