MASTER BALAMURALIKRISHNA - NEEDS MORE ENCOURAGEMENT

Master Balamuralikrishna, a budding youngster is the disciple of P S Narayanaswamy. He performed at Sri Tyaga Brahma Gana Sabha on 28th December 2000 with Satish Kumar on the violin and Dr. S Ananth on the mridangam. The concert began with the Sahana varnam, 'Karunimpa'. It was followed by a 'Tiruvarutpa' of Ramalinga Adigal, in the raga Gowla, which he said, was tuned by his guru. After a brief alapana in the raga Dharmavati, he rendered 'Bhajanaseyarada', a kriti set to Roopaka tala which is a composition of Mysore Vasudevachar. The neraval was appended in the charanam.

Tyagaraja's 'Tanavari tanamu' in Begada was the next item, which he rendered at a brisk pace. The main raga of the day, Saveri, was excellent. He rendered Periyasami Tooran's composition 'Muruga Muruga', set to Misra Chapu tala. The kalpanaswaras for the pallavi were very fluent and his voice moved easily in all the octaves. However, the Tani avartanam was very brief owing to the short duration of the concert. The concert came to a close with another Tiruvarutpa in Behag, tuned by his guru.

One hour is a very short time for an artiste to perform on stage, where there is an interaction between the artiste and the audience. This definitely creates a different ambience, unlike AIR programmes. It is a request to the Sabha secretaries on behalf of the audience, to increase the duration of concerts to at least an hour and a half.

AUDIENCE FEEDBACK:

Dr. Meena Jayashankar and J V Deepak: Today's concert was very well presented by Balamuralikrishna with crisp raga alapanas and kalpanaswaras.

Vedavalli Ramanujam: There could be more clarity in pronouncing the sahitya.

Lakshmi Narayanan: The concert was excellent and quite enjoyable.

V Raju: Balamuralikrishna's concert was very much enjoyable and had aesthetic appeal. He has a very sound future. May God bless him.

P Malati: His music performance was very enjoyable and filled the mind with great satisfaction. We wish him the best for a successful future. God's blessings are with him.
