CAREER

   
 V Ravi, a versatile artiste with more than 3 decades of experience in the field of Carnatic music, hails from a family that traces back its lineage to Maharaja Swati Tirunal and Muthuswami Dikshitar. Dikshitar, along with Tyagaraja and Syama Sastri form the musical Trinity of Carnatic music. Having trained under such musical master brains as his own father, Vadakanchery Veeraraghava Iyer, his brother V V Subramaniam and Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavatar, it is no wonder that Ravi is able to give of his best to the rasikas (the audience). He had his advanced training in vocal music under the expert guru,  Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer. He continues to learn under Sri P S Narayana Swami. He is not only a wonderful accompanist, but a good soloist, vocalist and a music composer of merit. 

As a permanent staff artiste of All India Radio, Chennai, this multi-faceted personality has played numerous roles. To be precise, thanks to All India Radio for exploring the talents in him. His recent contribution to the music world is 'Varshini', a thematic musical production for All India Radio. The music scores done by him were unanimously appreciated. Apart from this, he has also done the musical score for several acclaimed thematic productions like 'Saranga Malhar', 'Madhukauns' and so on.

Ravi has accompanied doyens such as D K Jayaraman, M D Ramanathan, Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavatar, T K Govinda Rao, Trichur Ramachandran, Voleti Venkateswarulu, Nedunuri Krishnamurthi, P S Narayanaswamy, M S Subbulakshmi, M L Vasantakumari's, D K Pattammal, B Rajam Iyer, Tanjore S Kalyanaraman, A Sundaresan, T V Gopalakrishnan, N Ramanathan, T V Shankaranarayanan, K J Yesudas, R Vedavalli, Mani Krishnaswamy, Sudha Raghunathan, Aruna Sayeeram and so on. 

He is a recipient of the Award of excellence from Maharajapuram Viswanatha Iyer Trust. He has also been declared as the Best Violinist by several renowned Sabhas in India and abroad. He is a widely travelled musician, whose frequent tours have taken him to countries such as the USA., Canada, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Japan, Muscat, Bahrain and Doha. He also holds the credit for training Western musicians in Europe and organising a fusion show in and around Europe with the percussion wizard Umayalpuram Sivaraman. 

V V Ravi has played in several prestigious platforms that include the Music Academy, Tyaga Brahma Gana Sabha, Mylapore Fine Arts Club, Nungambakkam Cultural Academy etc., in Chennai, RR Sabha in Chennai, Mumbai and Calcutta, Shanmukhananda Hall in Mumbai and Delhi, and several other famous Sabhas around the nation.
   
THE OTHER SIDE:
   
Ravi's family comprises four members. He is a violinist cum violin and vocal music teacher. His wife, with her melodious voice, is a dubbing artiste in the South Indian film industry. His son Raghava Krishna is yet another whiz-kid in the music world and his daughter aged four is also musically inclined and tries to follow the path of her parents.
