Padmini
Ramachandran is renowned for her ability to train young
students and continuing the rich heritage and culture of
Bharatanatyam. She studied and mastered this dance form
under the famed veteran Sri Vazhuvoor Ramaiah Pillai and
also had a stint under guru Sri S K Rameswaran. In 1974,
she established "Natya Priya", an
institute that teaches keen students into the wonderfully
expressive dance form of Bharatanatyam. This institution
has constantly seen a multitude of talented and versatile
students secure ranks, prizes and awards.
Padmini Ramachandran
has choreographed many dance dramas including "Hima
Sweta"
which has been serialized on TV and "Ashtalakshmi"
which was presented during the festival of India in
Russia. Recently her choreography of Kalighat icons for
the Welsh Museum in October, 1998 has been well
applauded.
A well known actress of the
past, Padmini Ramachandran was a recipient of "Shantala
Award" for the year 1996 from Nritya Kala
Academy of Karnataka.
