Bharat Sangeet Utsav is Carnatica's pioneering attempt at presenting the best Indian classical music and dance forms under the same roof. The format was envisaged with the aim of rekindling public interest in our art forms and emphasizing the central role of music and dance in Indian culture and history. The first Bharat Sangeet Utsav was held in November 2005 in Chennai as a ten-day extravaganza heralding the annual music season that stretches from November to February. The event met with overwhelming public response and received critical acclaim. After conducting the festival in Chennai again in 2006 & 2007, we were encouraged to try out the concept in other cities as well. The first such venture outside Chennai was held in February 2008 in Bangalore. The four-day event in Bangalore was also quite successful. We plan to hold a mini version of the festival this month in New Delhi. We have been lucky in getting almost all the leading South Indian artistes and several prominent North Indian musicians to perform at Bharat Sangeet Utsav. The list reads like a who's who of the current Indian classical pantheon. The concept of Bharat Sangeet Utsav has been sustained with the help of corporate sponsorships since inception. We have tried our best to keep the events free of cost to the general public and have offered free seats at almost all performances. The concept of Donor Passes which entitle the holder to a confirmed seat has been established as a means of supplementing sponsorships to sustain the festival. Select recordings from past festivals have been released in the public domain under the Carnatica label, with the kind consent of the concerned artistes. However, for the event to grow, become a unique brand that lives in public consciousness and to spread to other cities worldwide, we need generous donations from true music lovers. We are making this request on the basis of our genuine commitment to the art and proven ability to utilize donations for the stated purpose.
